Shade Trees was founded in 2026 by Mary Pederson with a vision to build a company that provides pragmatic, science-based and cost-effective arboriculture and urban forestry solutions to clients and organizations in order to grow happier and healthier urban/community forests.
Mary has over ten years of industry experience. She began her career as an Arborist working on a diverse range of projects include planting, pruning, tree support system installations, removals, plant heath care and consultancy. She transition into urban/community forestry and arboricultural consultancy working on range of projects from epidemic pest management for Dutch elm disease, emerald ash borer and oak wilt, building urban forest tree planting programs, tree assessments, reports and more for a range of residential, commercial and council clients. She is a CCC Approved Technician and Supervising Arborist as well as ISA Certified Arborist and Wisconsin Arborist Journeyworker with a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science, Policy and Management with an emphasis in Forest Ecosystem Management and Conservation from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
She has a passion for trees, especially tree planting. Tree planting can be one of the most critical stages of a trees life. Quality tree planting can shape how trees establish, grow and contribute to the urban forest as green infrastructure for decades to come. She has been a trainer for numerous tree planting seminars and has presented at the 2024 New Zealand Arboriculture Association Annual Conference on the topic of tree planting.
Whether or not it is tree planting, or other arboriculture and urban forestry projects, Shade Trees seeks to build relationships and help achieve pragmatic and cost-effective solutions that balances quality/beneficial tree outcomes with other project priorities.
